Kids Under Cover Cubby House Challenge

Story

"CUBBY LIFE" COMES TO LIFE!!!

Ducon has teamed with architects Six Degrees to design, build and donate a unique cubby house called "Cubby Life" to raise funds in the flight against youth homelessness.

A cubby house is much more than place for pint-sized people to play. It creates an imaginative space where kids can dream, learn, invent, create and grow.

'Cubby Life’ – Ducon and Six Degrees’ entry in the Kids Under Cover ‘Cubby Challenge’ – is a sanctuary that kids can retreat to, a place of their own where the screen world is unplugged. Its innovative, sustainable design encourages kids to commune with nature, to interact with the space and to let their imaginations run free.

Ducon works closely with architects and clients, using a ‘common interest’ approach in which each is a valued partner in the delivery of exceptional results. Like Ducon, Six Degrees has a people-oriented philosophy, so a collaboration that enriches the experience of childhood is a perfect endeavour, with designer and builder bringing their specific skills and common interest to the service of kids.

Thank you for supporting the Kids Under Cover Cubby House Challenge 2012.  By doing so you are helping to prevent homelessness, changing the lives of young people and helping them to reach their full potential.

Progress Shots

We invited Mia and Sammy Maypiece and Jasmine Mason over to test play on Cubby Life. They loved it!

    Kids Under Cover

Being homeless can happen to anyone.

On any given night, there are more than 116,000 people experiencing homelessness in Australia and nearly half of these are under the age of 25.*

For more than 30 years, Kids Under Cover has been working to prevent youth homelessness.

We know that if young people are not properly supported when they first experience homelessness, they have a higher chance of becoming homeless in their adult lives. Around 40% of homeless adults were first homeless as young people.**

In our work, we focus on early identification and prevention of youth homelessness, creating a proactive rather than a reactive approach to this very complex issue. We do this by building homes and providing scholarships for homeless and at-risk young people.
